Mentioned on Ep 145: 10 Books to Read in 2022

How are you expanding your knowledge and learning this year? Here are 10 books I recommend reading in the new year.

Welcome back to The Burnout Doctor Podcast, I’m your host Dr. Jessica Louie. Today, we are talking about 10 Must Read Books for 2022. Thank you for sharing your action steps from our last episode on how to improve your habits each day. Many of you are taking action by using our complimentary Burnout Starter Kit and Financial Freedom Kit – don’t forget to download yours today! We all write our own stories in our lives and homes. Let’s all bring joy into home and joy into work.

I’ve talked about my love of reading before but haven’t shared an episode of some of my favorite books to get started with. I’m a big advocate for continual learning and learning something new each and every day.

I challenge you to read 10 minutes a day. Pick up these books from your local public library (physical, digital eBook or audiobook) to get started. One way I incorporate reading into my day was scheduling it as part of my evening routine. To let go of screens before bed, I picked up a physical book to read and quiet my mind. You can listen to episode 137 on the Importance of an Evening Routine.

The Miracle Mourning by Hal Elrod.

Get prepared with your morning routine from episode 107. This is a classic book that is always good to reference when you need inspiration in the new year.

Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel.

Our financial well-being series here on the Podcast and on YouTube have been very popular over the last 2 years. These three books are my go-to in personal finance. I read over 20 books related to finance when I started by FIRE journey – financial independence retire early.

The Simple Path to Wealth by JL Collins.

The Great Rat Race Escape by MJ DeMarco.

A Life Less Throwaway by Tara Button.

Over the past 5 years I’ve been working intentionally to reduce our environmental footprint on how we buy and consume. This is one of my go-to books to help shift our perspective on consumerism and what is necessary in our lives. More recently, I have made a commitment to reduce the plastic packaged goods in our home from shampoo bottles to body lotion to makeup containers. It’s a slow transition as we use up all the products we own and find new companies who are committed to reducing the environmental impact on our planet.

Start with Why by Simon Sinek.

Of course, this is one of my all-time favorite books. Simon Sinek’s work inspired me to launch the Clarify step in The Burnout Doctor Method.

Mindset by Carol Dweck.

I think this is a must-read for all adults and educators. There are companion books and journals to teach kids about a growth mindset as well.

Soulful Simplicity by Courtney Carver.

Courtney shares a beautiful story and journey through simplicity. This is a great way to reconnect with simple living if you’ve veered away from it over the past few months.

The last two books are new in late 2021.

Atlas of the Heart by Brene Brown.

Buy here.

Brene Brown has several books I recommend. Her newest book is sure to touch the heart and dive deeper into your emotional and mental clutter.

Social Justice Parenting by Dr. Traci Baxley.

Buy here.

My friend, Dr. Traci Baxley’s work is excellent and she is now sharing it with the world in her new book raising compassionate anti-racist and justice minded children. This is a must read for all parents. I’ve known Dr. Baxley for over 3 years and it is a joy to see her work spread beyond her local community/academia setting into the hands of parents who can apply the steps right away to their children’s lives.

Please share what book you are looking forward to reading in 2022 and what you learned from the ones you’ve already from this list.

In my Joy at Work Course, you can get even more advice and action steps on how to make decisions with confidence and how to say no with confidence.

Make sure you’re following along on our YouTube channel (youtube.com/drjessicalouie) as well with new videos going live every Saturday!

Until next time, spark joy my friends!
