Welcome back to The Burnout Doctor Podcast, I’m your host Dr. Jessica Louie. This is episode 29 of the podcast – With Thanksgiving TODAY I thought it would be great to bring in gratitude and thanks into this topic. I’ll be sharing HOW to be grateful and thankful all year long + what I’m thankful today

What is gratitude?

It turns what we have into enough

a thankful appreciation for what an individual receives, whether tangible or intangible. With gratitude, people acknowledge the goodness in their lives … As a result, gratitude also helps people connect to something larger than themselves as individuals – whether to other people, nature, or a higher power

How do we practice gratitude daily?

I will share that I was TERRIBLE at practicing gratitude in the past. I thought it was just another thing to do on my list of tasks. I was burned out so what did I have to be grateful for?

A lot

Thinking of gratitude is not the same as writing down what you’re grateful for. So when I shifted my mindset and realized there was a LOT of amazing, wonderful, positive things going on in my life and surrounding me – what made me realize all this was WRITING it down daily.

How do you get started and practice all-year round?

Start simply. Each day, take 1 minute to write down what you are grateful for. I recommend incorporating this 1 minute into your end-of-day routine right before leaving work or nightly journaling routine

Here are a few questions to get you started:

3 things I appreciated today were…

3 things I am thankful for are…

3 things I’m grateful for are…

These are the same questions I incorporate into my custom Clarify Simplify Align planner and journal (shown here) – I prime myself in the morning with journal prompts to bring JOY into my day so that at nighttime, I know I’ll bring GRATITUDE into each night with the intention I put into each day.
