Welcome back to The Burnout Doctor Podcast with your host, Dr. Jessica Louie. Today on episode 6 we are discussing stress and burnout. How are they similar and how are they different from one another? Does stress lead to burnout?

Stress is a mental and emotional experience accompanied by predictable biochemical, physiological, and behavioral changes. Burnout is a result of prolonged exposure to stress.

The longer you are exposed to chronic stress, the more difficult it is for our parasympathetic system to turn it off once the stress is over.

Stress is: Over-engagement, Urgency and Hyperactivity.

Burnout is: Disengagement, Helplessness and Hopelessness.
