What saved me?
I was saved by decluttering and simplifying my life. Marie Kondo’s books and philosophy changed my life. It didn’t happen overnight, it didn’t happen over a few weeks, it took months to declutter my physical space and then my mental, emotional and spiritual space, relearn habits, find myself and my purpose. And learn what “burnout” was. I didn’t cure myself or solve my burnout. I learned how to reset it.
Research studies have shown how clutter affects our lives and can lead to burnout or contribute to it. A UCLA study showed that clutter is directly tied to stress levels (especially in women). More clutter = more stress. A Harvard study showed that eliminating clutter would reduce housework by 40%.
Physical clutter – our tangible, physical items – visually able to see them in our homes, our cars, our offices – clothing, books, papers, miscellaneous items or sentimental items. We declutter physical clutter with the KonMari Method.
Mental clutter affects our ability to process information.
Emotional clutter affects our ability to express feelings such as anger, sadness, and fear.
Spiritual clutter affects energy levels, trust, aligning values with decisions, being present.
Taking control. Be proactive instead or reactive to life and situations.
Mental clutter is accumulating from our digital world – phone, text message, emails
How to help mental clutter: I call it closing the files –we are burdened with mental clutter by trying to remember everything, having deadlines spinning around in our heads, emails to respond to, meetings to prepare for. First, we acknowledge that we cannot multi-task, we can only solo-focus, is important to remove distractions and mental clutter in your life. so for closing the files – if it takes less than 2 minutes to complete, do it now.
Set intention into checking emails. Decluttering your calendar. Etc.
Emotional and spiritual clutter is accumulating from being distracted, not aligning our decisions with our core values, not recognizing gratitude and thankfulness in our lives. Know your why and values. Implement them into your own life
That is why I love helping my students and clients learn about this as their first step in our coaching process and have developed a self-paced online course to Clarify and live your values
Apply the KonMari Method to our Mental Health

Phone
- Clarify the purpose of your phone, simplify how and when you use it, and align it with your productivity, focus and goals
The purpose of my phone is:
When I pick up my phone, I want to feel…
Remember the Basic principles:
Focus on what matters most
Accept that not everything can be accomplished
