Welcome back to The Burnout Doctor Podcast! Today we are talking about how to stop feeling overwhelmed all the time. Many of you are taking action by using our complimentary Burnout Starter Kit and What If Protocol – don’t forget to download yours today! We all write our own stories in our lives and homes. Let’s all bring joy into home and joy into work.

I’ve been asked this question a lot and today we are addressing it in depth – how to cope with negativity. Yes, we are all about bringing joy and intention into our lives on this podcast but sometimes we encounter negative energy in our lives. The fact it, human beings are naturally wired to have more negative than positive thoughts throughout the day. But we can reset that and we can let go of the negative effects around us.

First, when we see negative energy around us let’s remember to look for positive energy. This is similar to how we prime our brains to see joy each day. We can prime ourselves to see the positive in others. We can help by having compassion towards others.

Next, we can remind ourselves that everyone has a different life experience and unique meaning to add to this world. That means that we all view life through a different lens. By reminding ourselves of this, we can better comprehend why others thinks, say or do things they do and not let us effect our own mood or behaviors.

Next, similar to what we just talked about. Treat others the way you would like to be treated. I know this sounds simple and obvious but sometimes in the moment of anger or frustration we do not follow through on this.

Next, do not get pulled into the negative energy. Whether that is with a person or a news on the tv. Remind yourself if it is worth arguing with a negative person or gossiping with someone else. Remind yourself that a negative event on tv was likely out of our control and may not be worth worrying about.

Finally, decrease your exposure to negative energy. This might mean from other people and decreasing the time spent with them, or the time you consider his or her opinions. This might mean decreasing tv news consumption or social media consumption. I’ve been there. Make sure you’re setting up healthy boundaries and checking your energy after an activity or time with a person. We can unfollow, mute or stop using social media platforms that leave us with negativity.

In my Joy at Work Course, you can get even more advice and action steps on how to make decisions with confidence and how to say no with confidence.
