3 Reasons we may Feel Behind in Life and how to Reset them

Reason 1: Comparison

Our life is our life for a reason. Our path forward is our own. It’s simple to say and much harder to live this way. We’ve talked about comparison on the podcast before. Please go back and listen to Episode 39 on Comparison Syndrome and Episode 134 on Comparison is the Thief of Joy. When we feel behind, we often can take a step back and think if we feel behind because we are comparing our life to someone else’s. Maybe you’ve done this recently as I shared my financial well-being journey with all of you on the podcast and on YouTube. Please don’t compare your beginning or middle to my end. We all start somewhere. We didn’t pay off our student loans and go debt-free overnight.

Reason 2: Instant Gratification

We may feel behind in life because we are used to instant gratification. We are often not patient enough to see the journey we are walking. Remember how long it took to learn something new? Walking took months. Talking took months. Why as adults do we think we’ll learn something new and challenging right away? Take a step back and think about the journey and have patience along the path. You just may be on the most amazing journey and are not ready for your finish line just yet.

Reason 3: Internal Conflict

Do you feel behind in life because you don’t know what your life should look like? You are comparing yourself and don’t know how you ended up where you are? Maybe this is from a lack of knowing your WHY and core values. Maybe this is from a lack of confidence in yourself and how you live your life. Maybe this is from a lack of courage and strength.

6 years ago, I will tell you I’ve felt all these ways in the past. I felt behind. I felt like my life was slipping away. I finished my 20s and what did I have to show for it besides a job title, paper certificates and a LOT of years of education/training. I felt behind in starting my adult life. Everyone else was buying a house, getting married, having kids and moving on with their own families.

It took confidence to realize my comparison syndrome was holding me back from living an authentic life. I felt behind on things that didn’t matter to me.

In my Joy at Work Course, you can get even more advice and action steps on how to make decisions with confidence and how to say no with confidence.
