Mentioned on Ep 063: How to address the Monday Blues

Welcome back to The Burnout Doctor Podcast, I’m your host Dr. Jessica Louie. On episode 63, we are talking about how to address the Monday blues after a fun weekend. Thank you for your feedback on last week’s episode on 4 types of clutter affecting our JOY each day! I love reading your messages and how many of you were surprised by FOUR types of clutter instead of the typical one we think of – physical clutter. Remember, we all write our own stories in our lives and homes. Let’s all bring joy into home and joy into work.

On today’s episode, we are talking about how to address the Monday blues after a fun weekend! I initially saw this topic on LinkedIn and joined in on the discussion there. Especially as we head into a long Labor Day weekend, I’m addressing how I set up my week to avoid the Monday blues.

First of all, if you are consistently dreading Monday mornings and live for Friday afternoons and long weekends, it’s time to take an honest look at your feelings and mindset. This may be one of your signs that stress has turned into burnout and it’s time to reset it. If you would like to help with assessing these feelings, make sure you are using the FREE podcast workbook and schedule a complimentary call with me to see if coaching is a good fit to get unstuck in life right now.

Second, we CAN have fun on weekends and still look forward to the upcoming week. It’s not a black and white type of scenario where we only have fun and playtime on weekends and it’s all WORK, WORK, WORK on weekdays. If you’re feeling that way currently I will tell you, you are NOT alone. I used to feel this way. Then I shifted my perspective and realized that life isn’t ONLY work. If you need a reminder on this, listen to episode 10 on stop defining yourself by your career title.

Third, let’s set up our week for success. I do this with my Weekly Joy Check process to check-in on my 10 ideal lifestyle domains. This is a great reminder that work is not your whole life so when dreading Monday blues, we can focus on the 9 other aspects of our lives too. I talked more in depth on episode 51 on how to set up your week for success so you can go back and listen to that episode too. Overall, this Weekly Joy Check process (also available on my Spark Joy Shop as a notepad) gets me reflecting on the week I just had and sets up the upcoming week with anticipations. Remember, if we’re not looking for joy in our lives, it won’t be there. We need to prime ourselves to see and seek out the joy.

Fourth, my fiancé and I sit down for a Simplify Summit each Sunday to discuss the upcoming week. You can honestly name this anything you want. This is a great ~20 minute discussion about how we’re doing living out our family values, resolving conflict, aligning our calendars together and dreaming together. This sets JOY and intention into our week. We supplement this Simplify Summit discussion with our Marriage Journal by the Roloffs to document our answers.

I dive deeper into each of these types of clutter in our FREE Workshop on cultivating JOY AT WORK. Watch the free workshop instantly!

Have you been on the fence about coaching lately? Don’t know if it’s the right decision? Schedule a complimentary 30-minute call with me to see if coaching is a fit for you. I look forward to talking soon!

Until next time, spark joy my friends!
