Welcome back to The Burnout Doctor Podcast with your host, Dr. Jessica Louie. Today we are continuing our Pharmacist Month special edition with guest, Dr. Brian Fung.

In today’s episode, Dr. Brian Fung talks about his unique journey into informatics, public health and infectious disease as a pharmacist. He shares his own burnout journey and how he reset all the mental clutter using meditation and simplifying in his own life. His piece of advice for all of you: up-skill yourself and never stop learning.

About: Dr. Brian K. Fung, PharmD, MPH, BCPS is a Medication Management Informaticist at Mayo Clinic and a former Graduate Student Intern at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC). At Mayo, he is responsible for the implementation of the Antimicrobial Stewardship and Infection Control programs into the Epic electronic health record. He received his B.S. in Human Nutrition and PharmD from the University of Florida and his MPH from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

He completed a PGY-1 in Pharmacy Practice at Sarasota Memorial Hospital and a PGY-2 in Pharmacy Informatics at the University of Utah Health Care. Brian is board certified in pharmacotherapy and has also received additional training in Antimicrobial Stewardship through MAD-ID.

Brian holds academic appointments as a Instructor of Pharmacy at the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences, and a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy. Brian’s practice and research interest primarily lies within the intersection of informatics, infectious disease, and public health. He is actively involved in various committees and workgroups with American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP), American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), and the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists (SIDP).
