Now, if you’re new here please go back to Episode 8 on Clutter and Burnout, Episode 12 on What is the KonMari Method, Episode 62 on 4 Types of Clutter, and Episodes 103-105 on addressing clutter in your life. I talk extensively about the basics of decluttering, organizing and how it affects our stress levels and burnout levels. This episode is adds on 4 random ways I simplify my life.
Keep the Counters Clear
This may sound impossible but I challenge you to try it in one area of your home first. Try it in the smallest bathroom first. Put out only the hand soap and a towel. Then try it in your own bathroom and kitchen.
What has helped me? I keep a lot of items in a medicine cabinet or in my cabinets/drawers organized. I do not keep extra items I do not use daily in these areas. I either do not own extras or all toiletry extras are located in the same linen closet for the whole house.
This greatly helps wipe away extra water spilled on the counter and sanitize counters, especially in the kitchen.
Clear the Dishes ASAP
Have you ever timed how long it takes to load a dishwasher or unload a dishwasher? Try it. My guess it is 2-4 minutes. My husband and I like to remove the dishes and do them quickly to clear the sink area and countertops of any mess.
Remove Labels from Containers
Have you ever opened a cabinet and been disappointed by what you see. Maybe it isn’t cluttered but it has A LOT of logos screaming at you? To take your cabinets a step further after decluttering and organizing, consider removing the labels from jars and items. You can also turn the logos away from sight or pour items into clear glass containers.
Here are a few ideas: Unload your groceries and wash fruits/veggies into glass containers. Recycle any packaging along the way. Pour dry foods into clear glass containers and label the outside with the name/expiration date. Tape instructions or important safety information to the bottom of the container.
When Traveling, unpack Luggage Right Away
Are you someone who loves to unpack right away or leave it for days or weeks? I like creating a game out of it and timing myself to unpack luggage right away. I then clean the wheels and store the luggage out of sight. This helps get everything put away into laundry piles and organized back into the home in less than 30 minutes.
