What is a Certified KonMari Consultant & Why Should I Hire a Certified KonMari Consultant?

As a Certified KonMari Consultant, I’m often asked what I do and why should someone hire me. Let’s address those questions head-on today in this blog post.

What is a Certified KonMari Consultant?

A Certified KonMari Consultant goes through an extensive process with the KonMari Media Inc. Team to demonstrate knowledge, expertise, and commitment to the KonMari Method. This process includes:

  • Reading Marie Kondo’s Books (The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up & Spark Joy)
  • Tidying up our own Homes
  • Attending a KonMari Seminar in-person
  • Joining the KonMari Community
  • Submitting Tidying Reports documenting the process we use with our own clients
  • Passing a Certification Exam

Certified KonMari Consultants practice what we teach. We embody the methodology in our own homes as well as our lives. While I cannot speak for others, I truly believe that the KonMari Method changes not only our homes but our entire lives for the better. And that is why I am passionate about helping others through the process so we can all lead a life that sparks joy! You can read more about my personal story.

Why Hire a Certified KonMari Consultant?

I want to be very honest with you. Yes, you can read Marie Kondo’s books and go through the KonMari Method on your own. Hundreds of people do this everyday.

When I talk about being a Certified KonMari Consultant, I like to relate it to other professions that are similar. I think of myself as a Coach who is helping you get through a difficult process.

Here are a few professions that offer a Coach. What do they have in common? You could complete these activities on your own but you can also opt to hire a Coach through the process.

  • Fitness Coach
  • Weight-Loss Coach / Program
  • Dog Trainer

So…why do we hire and invest time and money into Coaches for these other areas of our lives? Because it saves us time, holds us accountable, and allows us to learn from experts in the area.

5 Reasons to Hire a Certified KonMari Consultant

1. TIME

Time is the #1 reason to hire a KonMari Consultant. Have you ever tried to do something on your own and you cannot accomplish your goal? Do you work for hours and don’t feel you got anything accomplished?

Many clients I work with tell me that just ONE session together (~4 hours) accomplishes more than they were able to accomplish over WEEKS to MONTHS of KonMari tidying on their own!

Now, let’s really think about what I just said.

Maybe you had a fitness coach that you would say the same thing to. You were able to join a gym on your own but you were never able to reach your goals or actually go to the gym without investing in a fitness coach. It took you 6 months to reach your 1-mile running goal and you accomplished your goal in just 2 weeks with your new fitness coach. Does this sound familiar to you? 

Your time is valuable. You want to use it in the most efficient ways possible. The amount of tidying we can accomplish together far exceeds what most people are able to do on their own. This is because a KonMari Consultant keeps you on track, reduces and eliminates distractions and facilitates your decision-making process.

2. Accountability

We hold you accountable to each decision you are making. We will help facilitate your “Does it spark joy?” process and ask you questions throughout the process to help you along the way.

We block out time to work together. Have you ever sat down to work on your KonMari tidying and decided that something else on your To-Do List was more important that day? We set appointments with doctors, hair stylists, fitness classes and more but why don’t we set appointments with ourselves. By blocking out time to work with a KonMari Consultant, you are committing to prioritizing your KonMari tidying. You don’t cancel appointments for other services so you will likely not cancel an appointment with a KonMari Consultant.

3. Support – Emotional and Physical

We offer physical support through the KonMari Process by helping to gather your items that are dispersed throughout your home and pile them into one location. This can seem overwhelming at first, but we help gather items, sort into sub-categories and then start the Joy Checking process.

We offer emotional support through the KonMari Process by facilitating decision making. Personally, with my background in healthcare, I help clients get to the root cause of their problems and what may be holding them back. We address these head-on together and clients are more easily able to let go of items that no longer spark joy for them. In addition, I specialize in mental well-being and resiliency as a board-certified pharmacist and understand the emotional processes that clients may have to better assist them through the process.

4. Resources and Guidance

We offer resources and guidance to our clients. Personally, I offer a client-exclusive Joy Journal that includes day-to-day assistance, reflection and help with documenting your KonMari Method journey. I also provide resources for donating and selling items that no longer spark joy – with an environmentally friendly attitude towards each item.

5. Expertise & Experience

KonMari Consultants have worked with many clients, upwards of hundreds to thousands of clients depending on our backgrounds. We have the expertise to help you, both from our initial Certification process and from ongoing education in our KonMari Consultant Community.
